Read all about it

skatemagcoverblack.jpgBack in March 2007 Steve Sirkin contacted me telling me he would be publishing an A5 size magazine for skaters. Steve is a supplier of general skating equipment in and around London. Issue one came out in May 2007 with a small mention of the NRHA on the top of a page halfway through the mag. With the next issue pending I decided to ensure the NRHA would have good representation in every issue. Since then skaters have been able to read about traditional roller hockey (Quad) in all the issues of Skate mag.

skatemaginsideblack.jpgI thought it would be a good idea to have one of the issues with a Roller Hockey theme, after speaking to Steve Sirkin in August 2007 we agreed I would supply the cover picture for the first A4 size magazine due to go on sale in May 2008. As you can see from the picture we made it happen, the current issue has Brendan Barker pictured on the front cover with double page articles from Aileen Barker (NRHA general secretary) and double page articles on Ian Morrison and James Taylor currently playing pro roller hockey in Spain and Italy respectively. A great read about other skate disciplines in this excellent issue.

Copies can be purchased by emailing me with your order on gordon@ukrollerhockey.com

Tenerife 2008 CERS Cup Winners

The final four teams of the 2007/8 CERS cup will compete this weekend in Quevert France. Clubs from all over Europe registered last year to participate in this prestigious annual home and away competition. We Only had one English team, Bury RHC, who played Viareggio at Soham on 20th October last year, unfortunatly Bury were knocked out of this competition in the first round after a defeat at Soham and in Viareggio.

Now you can see the pictures of the final four teams of this years semi final and final.

HBU v Middlesbrough

0202front.jpg

What a feast, 14 goals in 70 minutes all played at the highest UK level. HBU were confident and took control of this Premier League match having pushed the score to 6-0 by the end of the first have. Middlesbrough emerged from the changing room for the second half determined to salvage something from this game. The boys from Cleveland took on the Kent lads and pulled back the 7 goals giving the final score of 7-7. Did the suspension of Simon Hoskin and Sam Jackson for this match have a major effect or did Middlesbrough put into practice their additional training of the previous few days?

Spainish National One Areces v Tordera

 frontpagepicture.jpg

Last weekend I photographed the Spainish National Div. one match Areces v Tordera in the small town of Grado near Oviedo in Northern Spain. Areces are pushing for the top of league one with the hope of promotion to Division of Honour (the Spanish premier league) next year. Look out for the faces you may have seen playing for Spain in past European and World Championships.

Final score, Areces 3 - 1 Tordera.

St Omer still at the top

cover1.jpgSCRA St Omer had a convincing win (8-2) over mid league team Ploufragan last Saturday at the St Omer home venue. SCRA St Omer are a semi professional team and are currently the French National Division one league leaders. With only eight matches left in the season St Omer are on target to win Frances top Roller Hockey league.

Keep an eye open for the pictures showing “stick bend” the phenomenon that occurs when energy is transferred when the stick strikes ball.

New Team Pictures

worldseniorsmontreuxcover.jpg

Over the years the Team Picture album on this website has been a popular stopping off point whilst our visitors flick through our picture albums. This particular album is an achieve of players representing England at Roller Hockey’s European and World competition. The album has recently been updated to display team photos taken at Senior, Ladies, Junior and Schoolboy levels during 2007. I hope to continue in maintaining this prestigious archive of images as a roll of honour dedicated to the players who “play for England”.

To maintain this website the only avenue to generating the finance we need is through the sale of the photographs we take. Most of our team pictures as with the other pictures on this website are available to purchase as prints. If you would like to purchase any of these pictures please email me with your questions or order, in addition to this on the right hand side of our front page I have put a “Make A Donation” button so if you enjoy looking at the photos on this website and want to show your appreciation you can make a financial contribution to the running of this world famous site.

II Copa S.A.R. El Principe

fotothumb1.jpg

What a Tournament! Four matches, all went to extra time and two then went to penalties. This years Spanish Princes cup was hosted at the venue of the current holders, Areces . The home crowd saw four teams Areces, Macenet, Vigo Stick and Sitges (all National Division 1 teams) play some great hockey over Saturday evening and Sunday.

Over the years I get to see the European National teams compete and team players working as a unit. Watching this tournament between clubs you see the same team members batterling and exhibiting their skills against each other, I’m sure that some of you who have played for England will recognise some of the team so watch this space to see some of the action from last weekend.

Congratulations to Macanet who won the 2008 Princes Cup host in Grado, Spain.

Maçanet - Sitges 3-2
Areces Elecinco - Vigo Stick 2-3
Areces Elecinco - Sitges 3-4
Maçanet - Vigo Stick 6-4
